About Me

About Me
My growing up years were spent on a farm north of Pukwana, SD.  I graduated from Pukwana Public School and journeyed west to Black Hills State College where I earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education with a major in English and a minor in Spanish.  Later I received a Master of Arts Degree in Curriculum Development with an emphasis in computer education.
The majority of my career I taught English at Central High School in Rapid City, SD.  However, I have also taught at Philip and New Underwood, as well as several small schools in Nebraska.  Besides teaching English, I have also served as the school librarian and taught K-3 computers, 7h grade and high school Geography, 8th grade U.S. History, Spanish I and Spanish II.
My daughter, Amber, is a public defender in Lawrence County.  Her husband, Ben, is an IT specialist at Fort Meade Veterans Hospital in Sturgis.
I love to travel.  Thus far I have visited more than twenty countries, as far flung as Thailand, Turkey, Belize, Costa Rica, Romania, Turkey, and Kenya.  I am currently making plans to travel to Italy next summer.
Having been an English teacher most of my career, it is perhaps a prequisite that I love to read.  These days I read mostly nonfiction and just finished The Boys in the Boat, the story of the 1936 Olympic eight man crew team.   However, this summer I discovered author Louise Penny and her series of mystery novels featuring Chief Inspector Armand Gamache.  I devoured the first thirteen of the series in two weeks; number fourteen is out this week.  Needless to say, I highly recommend them.
I look forward to the continuous challenges inherent in teaching.  I see Viborg as a lovely vibrant community with much to offer.  I am pleased to be here.
LIFE IS ADVENURE

I, not events, have the power
to make me happy or unhappy today.
I can choose which it shall be.
Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn't
arrived yet.  I have just one day, today,
and I'm going to be happy in it.
